Graduate Training Programme (GTP)
This is a one year programme of post-graduate training. Working in a school as an unqualified teacher you follow an individualised training plan enabling you to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). Once you have QTS, you can work as a qualified teacher in any maintained school in England.
Can I go on the programme? This programme is aimed at graduates interested in qualifying as teachers through school-based training leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). The GTP is part of a government initiative to attract those seeking a change of career into the teaching profession. Those successful in gaining a place will have both experience from their previous working life and from teaching, training or working with young people including time spent with them in a teaching and learning environment. They therefore do not require the level of support that the PGCE route offers. Competition to enter teaching via the GTP route is strong and candidates are expected to be of high calibre. We have 10 places available on this route each year. Application for September 2010 has now closed. Application forms for September 2011 will be available on this website from September 2010. Early application is strongly recommended.
How can I be sure of quality training? The SCITT consortium and your training schools will provide the support and facilities you need. You will have the guidance of skilled and experienced colleagues and will be continuously assessed against the QTS standards throughout the programme. You will be expected to keep a portfolio of evidence of your achievements, which will form the basis of your final assessment
